Turn your clutter into kindness – a spotlight on DropPoint
Back in 2017, a young man named Chris from my Logistics team told me he was leaving the company to start a charity. I thought it was a strange move at the time, leaving a fulfilling role to start an organisation that would incur a huge amount of work and where he wouldn’t get paid at all. However, I couldn’t help marvel at the altruism of someone prepared to give up everything to start something that had meaning and would give back to society.
Since then, Chris has turned his vision into reality - connecting potential donors to charities in desperate need of key items. This service is particularly valuable for the more unusual items you have to donate e.g. from gardening equipment, food even through to lightly used bras. DropPoint now has over 350 charities registered on the site and, with the help of carriboo has set up a quick and convenient portal to access a selection of UK carriers in order to provide seamless delivery to the charity location.
As someone who doesn’t own a car, I know how difficult it is to organise to drop off a bin bag full of donations to a charity (if they are a bit cumbersome to carry). It can take literally weeks to organise a home collection and very few charities offer this service.
Chris is now looking at opportunities to take DropPoint to the next level, exploring how organisations and Retailers can maybe use DropPoint to give a more sustainable home to distressed stock rather than passing it to Jobbers.
